“Ye Are The Salt Of The Earth” Letter 6-26-16

One Year Mark on My Mission!

Costco with President Robinson

“Ye Are The Salt Of The Earth”

This scriptural quote takes on a new meaning for your stinky, sweaty missionary here in Sonora Mexico. The heat has been getting intense these days (and will continue to intensify) and we´re sweating ALOT as Hna Balboa and I cover our huge area on foot. Every day I kept noting weird white marks on my shirts. A member later pointed out to me that the white marks are salt residue from my sweat…SALT RESIDUE!!!!! GROOSSSSSSSS!

Now that you all know that I am properly seasoned. I’ll let you know about the work briefly because we had a crazy P-day (which included pant shopping, pant returning, Costco shopping and eating with President and Hna Robinson and making homemade ice cream in their house afterwards).

It’s somewhat difficult to get people to let us salty missionaries into their houses, but we’ve been trying to keep up the work. This week we’ve focused a lot on an older investigator, Tomas, and he came with us to church! Also a less active member named Guadalupe has been coming back to church and will be reactivated this next week.

There is more to tell but I don’t have much time, sooo until next week!!

Ice Cream Makes EVERYTHING Better! Letter 6-20-16

Hermana Hauck in her bridesmaid dress for Brad & Emilee's wedding.

Ice Cream Makes EVERYTHING Better!

Prelude: I think my last subject line was about ice cream too... Shows you where my priorities are.

Greetings to the outside world!

Today was a bit of a crazy P day because we had to go to Mexico immigration to renew my visa because this week I´ll have ONE YEAR!!!! WHAT?! Yep, weird. Then after we had to go pant shopping again, which is the worst, but I finally have finished I think.  Sadly, Hna Ylst´s and Hna Ruiz´s backpacks were stolen today while we were shopping. I actually can´t believe I haven´t had anything stolen yet in the mission... maybe I´m speaking too soon. Anyways, we made them feel a bit better by going to Dairy Queen for ice cream. : )

We had a really good Zone Conference this week where President talked to us about doctrine for a bit and I wanted to share a cool point.

We talked about what it means to be ¨children of God¨. We can be mistaken thinking that we are simply creations of Him making us His children. But while we definitely are creations we are more specifically children. An artist can create a painting and the painting is his, but that painting will never and can never come to be like the artist. We are not paintings but children. Spiritual offspring with the potential to become like our Heavenly Father. As said in the scriptures, the plan of God is ¨one eternal round¨ so we can arrive to be as He is. I like the quote ¨as we are God once was and as God is we can become¨. I don´t really have time to expound more on this doctrine but I thought it was cool and wanted to share it.

If you want more of that spiritual goodness READ YOUR SCRIPTURES!!

I Scream, You Scream Letter 6-13-16

I love Star Wars!

Car Ride with Kevin, Dorian & Azul

We all scream for ice cream!!!

Hullo world! Hermana Haucksie reporting to you live that ice cream season has indeed started. This week has been a bit cooler than last week.. but I´m just waiting until July/August weather when it is +120 everyday. Luckily it is really common here for families to start businesses selling ice cream(ish) treats called hielitos (yel-eet-ohs) and bolis (boh-lees) from their houses.

Today has been spent trying on pants... which all girls know is the WORST! But in our mission pants will be required in all proselyting in the months July, August and September, then they will be optional until December.

This week has been looking for lots of new investigators. We had to stop teching Daniel because he had lots of doubts and problems that neither he nor we could settle. We were a little discouraged, but were really excited to find some new investigators with alot of potential including the Family Mejia-mother and father with five children- who´ve shown lots of interest.

Reina is doing well but is still sorting out family problems. She loves reading the Book of Mormon though and has read a good deal of it already.

That sums it up for this week!!

Pioneer Children Sang As They Walked Letter 6-6-16

Sonoran Heat!

Investigators Gave us Ice Cream on Fast Sunday

Ice Cream Date

Solar Oven

..and walked and walked and walked aaaannnndd waaaaalkkkkedd!

That´s right. It’s been a week of walking under the HOT Sonoran sun! We reached 120 degrees this Saturday too! Hna Balboa and I are beat every night when we get home, but it’s really satisfying feeling so tired.

120 degree weather or not, the work moves forward! This week we had a couple of difficulties with our investigators.

Reina is still very interested and has been reading the Book of Mormon a lot, but didn´t come to church. And Daniel is now having some doubts about his baptism.

These are a bit of a let down but Hna Balboa and I will have to keep working hard. President always says that the success of a missionary isn´t measured by baptisms, but how diligent the missionary is at inviting ALL to come unto Christ with the Spirit. Every once in a while I feel like a rough period is thrown at us in the mission to discourage us, but by looking at that definition of missionary success, I feel more encouraged to keep inviting and living worthy of having the Spirit with me at all times.

That´s all for this week!!
